Adding children to your wedding is a sweet custom that adds a touch of levity to the proceedings. A flower girl might traditionally fling petals from a basket down the aisle, while a ring bearer will carry the rings on a satin pillow.
FLOWER GIRLS
The flower girl follows the ring bearer down the aisle, and that in the past, she would spread rose petals down the aisle for the bride to walk down. However, because many venues are concerned about the potential mess, a more modern approach is to have the flower girl blow bubbles, pass out lollipops, or just stroll down the aisle before the bride. Some brides choose a tiny version of their bridal gown for the flower girl, while others choose a lovely garment to complement the bridesmaids' attire.
RING BEARERS
It might be a nice touch to have a ring bearer carry the wedding rings down the aisle. The job is usually undertaken by a young boy who will enter the wedding and lead the bridal procession down the aisle. In preparation for the ceremony, he will normally place the rings on a cushion or pillow and carry them down the aisle to the altar. Because the ring carrier is usually a young kid, it is customary to place fake rings on the pillow and entrust the real ones to the best man in case they are spilled or misplaced! It's a fantastic approach to involve young family members in what may otherwise be a quite dull service!
